European Championships 2013 - Press Release and European Champions 2013
2013 FEQHA European Championship of American Quarter Horses:
Europe’s Quarter Horses on World Show Level!
Maybe, the 2013 FEQHA European Championship of American Quarter Horses was the best ever – at least as far as the huge number of high class horses is concerned. Never before have there been so many top quality horses and runs – at least this is what both the judges of the event and AQHA Director of International Affairs, David Avery said. As did Ann Dennis, who had designed the EC trails for the fourth time now. “These European trail exhibitors are so good that I could give them more difficulties this time,” she said. “It was a tough course, but they handled it really well. There were quite a number of horses that could go to the World Show any time. The margin betten the U.S. and Europe is really narrowing.“ And multiple European Champion Sylvia Jackle, who was the judging the event for the first time, added: „The trails were extremely good – but so were e.g. the Senior Western Pleasure or the Amateur Reining. And then those huge Youth shows with top rides. This show was a real pleasure to judge! Working together with the other judges was fun – the results were usually very similar, and we got along very well. The show management did a great job as usual – as did David Avery who was busy giving all the support you might need. And it was a great decision to include the finals again – as they make the EC something special.”
In 2013, the European Championship was a 6 AQHA show plus finals which gave back the former prestige to the event. The event attracted huge media attention – not only from the worldwide horse media, but also from regional newspapers, radio and television. Even the ‘Bayerische Rundfunk’ the leading TV station of Bavaria and one of Germany’s leading altogether, attended the show on the final week-end to report about it their sports section. 305 horses from 12 nations had been entered – less than the year before, which was due to a major reining event running at the same time in Austria as well as the AMERICANA following right after the EC. However, entries had increased again: almost 1800 in contrast to last year’s 1700. The total purse (prizes and money) exceeded € 50,000 and included the beautiful European Championship buckles. Exhibitors really appreciated FEQHA’s sponsoring of one box stall per Youth exhibitor. Also FEQHA took a share of the box stall fees for Amateur exhibitors. “FEQHA did a great job of giving back something to the exhibitors,“ said David Avery, who has been personally present at every single EC since 2006. “Service and exhibitor friendliness are all what it’s about. Er tried to change this horse show due to exhibitors‘ wishes and also due to the concerns of the welfare of our friend, the American Quarter Horse.“
The 2013 FEQHA European Championship of American Quarter Horses started with the Halter and Cattle Shows. The show team received lots of praise from the cutting exhibitors who enjoyed the excellent cattle and ground. In Cutting, The Netherlands claimed two gold as well as two bronze medals. The European Championship Cutting All Ages Open was claimed by Meradas Acre (Master Merada x Not Quite An Acre) and Roel Breeur. The two scored a total of 436 points. Altogether, Germany was leading in medal ranking both in halter and performance but a look at the performance ranking shows how close the European nations were together: 11 gold medals for Germany, 6 for Switzerland and 4 gold medals each for Italy and Austria. And it’s even more remarkable considering that Germany had the biggest number of exhibitors in this event.
